    The waterfall and the Gorge of Milonas

    The waterfall of Milonas is found in close proximity to the national road of Ierapetra-Makrigialos, between the villages of Koutsounari and Ferma. Its height is 50 meters, the largest in East Crete. Starting at the location Kaki Skala, a 1.5 km clay road leads to the waterfall path. A beautiful, easy and picturesque walking path of 730 meters. Going on the same path, after about 500 meters you will find the gorge of Milonas.

     

     

    Psichro valley

    A beautiful, mountainous landscape, full of pine and plane trees, at the foot of mountain Afentis, 4 km after the village of Ag. Ioannis.The churches of Ag. Georgios and Panagia are located there, where a unique fair takes place every year on the 15thofAugust. There are many water springs which supply Ierapetra with water. You will also see the remnants of the watermills .

     

     

    The Gorge of Sarakina

    The gorge of Sarakina (or Sarandapichosas it is called by the locals) starts 20 km west of Ierapetra in a short distance from the village Mythoi. According to the legend, Sarandapichos (giant, son of Zeus) passing by the mountain, kneeled to drink water from the river. His long beard tore the mountain in two and created the gorge. It is mostly accessible, with rich vegetation, running waters and ponds. It is ideal for a pleasant afternoon or a walk with children. The hike will last about an hour..

     

     

    Selakano

    It is a mountainous area and village in the southeast side of Mount Dikti, at an altitude of 930 meters. The area is full of gorges and creeks, overgrown with holly oaks, pine and plane trees, suitable for excursions all year long, with every season surprising in its own way. The forest in Selakano is a major ecosystem in Crete, protected by the Natura 2000 program. The natural landscape reveals its beauty to the visitors and gives them the opportunity to admire it.

     

     

    HA gorge

    Visible from the National road of Ag. Nikolaos – Ierapetra, just after the village Pachia Ammos, one of the most beautiful gorges of Greece, still remains untouched by most, apart from the few experienced climbers. The width of the gorge in the narrowest points is 30cm and its height varies between 200 and 400 meters. It provides ideal shelter to wildlife species.

     

     

    Bramiana lake

    The Bramiana lake is found 5 km northwest of Ierapetra, on the way to Kalamafka. It is an artificial lake built in 1986 to cover the irrigation needs of the area. Gradually it evolved in a beautiful green landscape, as well as in one of the most important wetlands of South Greece. Due to its location it provides shelter to migratory birds. The Natural History Museum of Crete lists 214 bird species. You may also find frogs, rabbits, hedgehogs, water turtles and lizards.
